ATTENTION AAFMCC MEMBERS:

Recently there has been an increase in incidents of adjuncts not getting winter 2014 classes because they did not meet the deadline for declaring their availability.  According to Section 4.2 of the AAFMCC-MCC Contract:

An adjunct teacher shall inform the immediate supervisor of his or her availability to teach specifying the days of the week and hours of availability by the third (3rd) Monday in September for the winter term and the third (3rd) Monday in March for the spring/summer and fall terms.  An adjunct teacher who fails to provide timely notification shall forfeit his or her rights under this Section for the upcoming term.

This has been the case since the ratification of the 2007-2010 Contract.  While some supervisors send out an e-mail reminder as a courtesy beforehand it is NOT required under the contract.  Therefore ALL adjuncts should make special personal note of these dates.  AAFMCC will also continue to send out e-mail reminders to all adjuncts.  Such reminders, however, are useless unless adjuncts activate their MCC e-mail and check it on a regular basis.  College e-mail remains the best (and in some cases the only) way for both YOUR employer and YOUR union to communicate with you.  Please do so if you have not and remind your colleagues to do the same.
In Solidarity,
AAFMCC Executive Board
